蔡英文總統剛結束在友邦巴拿馬及巴拉圭的訪問，正在洛杉磯過境。針對雄三飛彈誤射事件，隨團的總統府發言人黃重諺表示，事件發生後，國安會便立刻接獲國防部的通知，並旋即聯繫在洛杉磯的總統訪團幕僚，隨時更新事件資訊，同時向總統簡報相關狀況。總統得知後，便立刻指示由國安會、國防部進一步了解事件發生原因，並妥為處置。
稍早在美西時間1日晚上10時，總統召集隨行出訪的國安會秘書長吳釗燮、總統府副秘書長劉建忻，透過保密通訊方式聽取國安會副秘書長陳俊麟針對飛彈誤射的報告，掌握最新資訊並了解相關部門的處理狀況，同時要求以最快速度查明真相，並徹底檢討。
